Con­vey­or technology for the auto­mo­tive industry 

Assem­bly lines of mod­ern indus­tri­al com­pa­nies, such as the auto­mo­tive indus­try, have to cope with enor­mous logis­ti­cal chal­lenges. The most var­ied indi­vid­ual com­po­nents, which are need­ed to assem­ble the fin­ished prod­uct, have to be avail­able at the right time, in the required amount and at pre­cise­ly the right place. Con­vey­ors with dri­ven rollers can make a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to solv­ing these logis­ti­cal prob­lems effec­tive­ly. As such, con­vey­ing is by no means restrict­ed to move­ments in a straight line. With the tar­get­ed use of con­i­cal rollers, move­ments along curves can also be car­ried out at any time.

The most impor­tant com­po­nents of con­vey­or systems 

The most impor­tant ele­ments of con­vey­or sys­tems are the ball-bear­ing rollers, which can also be sup­plied as dri­ven rollers. The dri­ve can be designed option­al­ly using a round belt or chain in both sin­gle and dou­ble ver­sions. Con­vey­or chains, which are pro­duced in accor­dance with ISO 606 (DIN ISO 8187 Euro­pean type), have the advan­tage of slip-free pow­er trans­mis­sion. For spe­cial appli­ca­tions, an elec­tric dri­ve using a 24V DC motor is also pos­si­ble. In this way, inde­pen­dent con­vey­ing of goods is pos­si­ble along lin­ear or even curved sec­tions. Depend­ing on the con­fig­u­ra­tion, the max­i­mum con­vey­ing speeds can be up to 2 m per sec.

Parts to be con­veyed often have to be turned com­plete­ly or part­ly to get them into the desired posi­tion. This can be achieved by using poly­di­rec­tion­al rollers. Thanks to its smooth-run­ning design, this ver­sa­tile com­po­nent has excel­lent mate­r­i­al flow prop­er­ties that mean it can be used in vir­tu­al­ly any application.

For spe­cial appli­ca­tions, it may be advan­ta­geous to slight­ly lift the goods to be con­veyed with point or line con­tact, con­vey them fur­ther in sec­tions and set down again. For this pur­pose, one or more dri­ven square rollers are suit­able as con­vey­ing elements.

The appro­pri­ate axle ver­sions for auto­mo­tive con­vey­or technology 

The par­tic­u­lar appli­ca­tion of con­vey­or rollers with its indi­vid­ual chal­lenges deter­mines the most suit­able axle design. Whether the axle now has an inter­nal thread, an exter­nal thread with nut, an exter­nal thread with a shoul­der, a spring design or a width across flats, each indi­vid­ual design has its spe­cif­ic advan­tages. The local con­di­tions for the use of con­vey­or rollers must also be includ­ed in plan­ning con­sid­er­a­tions in any case.

Auto­mo­tive con­vey­or tech­nol­o­gy as a stand­alone prod­uct and pro­duc­tion sec­tor of mechan­i­cal engineering

By its very nature, con­vey­or tech­nol­o­gy also plays a cru­cial and par­tic­u­lar role in the auto­mo­tive indus­try. A con­vey­or belt is dif­fi­cult or impos­si­ble to imag­ine with­out con­vey­or tech­nol­o­gy. The com­plex­i­ty of con­vey­or belts for the auto­mo­tive indus­try pos­es an enor­mous chal­lenge for the safe and reli­able func­tion­ing of con­vey­or sys­tems of all kinds. The large num­ber of indi­vid­ual com­po­nents that are required to assem­ble an auto­mo­bile alone is an indi­ca­tion of the nec­es­sary and espe­cial­ly flex­i­ble design of con­vey­or sys­tems to be installed. Mod­ern roller con­vey­ors can be fit­ted with robust rollers of any required type, whose car­ry­ing capac­i­ty is up to 400 kg per car­ri­er roller. This means that even heavy goods such as auto parts can be con­veyed eas­i­ly and quick­ly to any desired loca­tion. Exten­sive tests guar­an­tee safe func­tion­ing for longer peri­ods and espe­cial­ly in con­tin­u­ous operation.

Con­clu­sion

The safe and espe­cial­ly care­ful con­vey­ing of goods of all types also often requires a very spe­cial sur­face treat­ment of the rollers. Depend­ing on the sen­si­tiv­i­ty of the parts to be con­veyed, the rollers can be designed with var­i­ous spe­cial coat­ings. Whether the out­er jack­et is made of PVC tub­ing, PU tub­ing, nat­ur­al PU tub­ing, anti­sta­t­ic PU tub­ing, tex­tile tub­ing or poly­olefin shrink tub­ing, depends large­ly on the parts to be con­veyed. Of course, the rollers can also be anodized as alu­minum tube, sand­ed and pol­ished stain­less steel tube or as a pow­der-coat­ed tube in var­i­ous RAL tones. What is cru­cial for the ide­al selec­tion of coat­ings is always the pre­vail­ing local con­di­tions and the type of goods to be conveyed.
